Unstitched, and what to ask your tailor
Buying by the set gives you a fit no rail can. It also gives you three decisions to make before the scissors come out.
Unstitched is three pieces of cloth: shirt, trouser, and dupatta. Everything after that is a decision, and most of them cannot be undone.
Ask about the shirt length before anything else. It sets the proportion of the whole outfit and it is the measurement people most often regret.
Then the sleeve. An embroidered border on the cuff has to be positioned before cutting, not after — a tailor who cuts first will lose the motif.
And ask what they will do with the offcuts. A good tailor keeps them; they are what a repair is made from three years later.
